    VFS Pune, Portugal Visa Application Center will be start in Pune on 27 February 2017.

    Please be informed that The Embassy of Portugal, New Delhi and VFS New Delhi, Jalandhar, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Bangalore ,and Chennai will remain closed on 28 February 2017 on account of  Portuguese Holiday.

    The Consulate General of Portugal, Goa has also declared a Holiday on 28 February 2017 on account of Carnival.

    Please be informed that the Consulate General of Portugal, Goa, VFS Portugal Mumbai and VFS Portugal Pune will be closed on the 28 February 2017 on account of this Holiday.

    The Government of India has withdrawn with immediate effect (midnight of 08 November 2016) the legal tender character of the existing and any older series banknotes in the denominations of Rs 500 and Rs 1000.

    VFS will accept Visa fees and VFS logistic charges in all denominations of all notes other than the existing & old high denomination notes of Rs. 500 and Rs.1000.

    On account of Durga Puja in Kolkata please note that our courier partner, Blue Dart, will be completely closed on 10 October 2016 and 11 October 2016. Hence all applications accepted in Kolkata on 10 October 2016 and 11 October 2016 will be submitted at the Embassy in Delhi on 14 October 2016.

    Also note that the passports sent from Delhi on 10 October 2016 and 11 October 2016 will reach Kolkata on 12 October 2016 and 13 October 2016 respectively.

    Travel Medical Insurance Applicable form 1 August 2016

    When you apply for a short stay visa you also need to prove that you have travel medical insurance to cover any expenses which might arise in case of urgent medical attention or emergency hospital treatment during your stay, including repatriation. If you apply for a multiple entry visa, you have to have insurance covering the period of the first visit. In addition, you shall sign the declaration stating that they are aware of the need to be in possession of travel medical insurance for subsequent travels.

    Please note that the insurance shall be valid throughout the territory of Schengen States, even if your destination is Portugal. The insurance has to cover the entire period of your intended stay. The minimum coverage shall be EUR 30 000. Kindly be advised that travel medical insurance policy terms and conditions cannot limit the coverage of medical expenses or emergency care based on your age, resulting in coverage below this minimum coverage. Please make note that failure to provide adequate travel medical insurance will delay the processing of your visa application.

    You shall, in principle, take out insurance in India. Where this is not possible, you shall seek to obtain insurance in any other country. Please find here the list of those Indian insurance companies which are approved by consular representations of the Schengen States to provide travel medical insurance for the visa procedure.

    All applicants are required book an appointment online to submit their visa application and Biometric information at the Schengen visa application centre.

    As part of the visa application procedure, from 2 November 2015 applicants will need to provide Biometric fingerprint data along with a digital photograph. If you have temporary injuries on your fingers, applicants are advised to wait until the injuries have healed before you book your appointment. Henna on fingertips may also mean we are unable to get a clear scanned image and should be removed or allowed to fade before your appointment date.

    Before you make an appointment you should carefully read the visa application process available on the website to submit your visa application and supporting documents at the visa application centre.

    If you have missed your appointment on the scheduled day, the system will not allow you to reschedule or cancel and you will require to book a new appointment after 24 hours.

    Please make sure you arrive at the visa application centre 15 minutes prior to your appointment time. Applicants are not allowed to be accompanied inside the visa application centre. The only exceptions to this are those accompanying children under 18 years-of-age or applicants who need special assistance for health reasons or disability.

    If you are part of a family or group, each member of the family or group must make an individual appointment. For example, if you are a family of 4 with 2 adults and 2 children you must make 4 individual appointments.

    VFS Global appointment system is compatible with most popular browsers. VFS Global will soon introduce appointment scheduling through call Centre for the ease of applicants.

    Submission of Visa application and collection of passports

    Submission of Visa application and collection of passports can be done by the following:

    • Applicant himself.
    • Travel Agents/Representative is coming to submit the application he needs to carry a photo id of himself and an authority letter from the applicant / company only if the applicant has got his Biometrics recorded for Schengen Visa.
    • Third party collection of the documents or passports will not be permitted, except in the following cases:
      • Immediate Family Member (that is Parents, Children, Spouse)
      • A person collecting on behalf of Government officials if authorized on the Government letter head.

    If any of the above comes for passport collection they need to carry the following documents:

    1. Original Government ID card
    2. Original ICR
    3. Original authorization letter from applicant

    It is also mandatory to mention applicant’s personal address on the covering letter on which passport has to be couriered. Applicant's passport will not be couriered to their travel agencies 'addresses as directed by the Embassy.
    Note*

    1. In case of a business applicant, if the applicant wishes to receive the passport to his/her office, then the same needs to be mentioned in the covering letter and the applicant’s office address needs to be mentioned in the courier request form.

    For application withdrawal cases, the passport needs to be collected from VFS Global only.

    Submission of Application

    This is to notify that no application will be accepted if it does not meet the timelines as mentioned below.

    • 05 working days in advance for applicants that have already traveled to Schengen in the past (no matter when) or that have a valid USA and/or UK visa.
    • 10 working days for applicants those have never traveled to Schengen/USA/UK.

    The timelines starts only when the application reaches the Embassy not when it's received by VFS.

    Processing Time

    In accordance with the EU Visa Code, visa applications are generally processed within max. 15 days from the date of receipt at the Embassy. Visa applications which have to be sent to the competent authorities for further assessment may require additional processing time.

Please note:

  1. The Visa Section cannot guarantee that applications submitted at short notice will be processed on time (i.e. less than 10 days notice).
  2. In peak travel periods, applications submitted at short notice will not, as a rule, be prioritized ahead of applications that have been submitted in time.
  3. Applications are only accepted within 3 months of the requested date of arrival

Visa with Report Back Stamp

The visa issued on ’report-back’ basis (Next to the visa sticker in your passport you will find a stamp that reads:

Please present yourself at the Embassy or the Consulates upon your return”)
are required to present themselves in person , along with their passport, within 15 days from the date of expiry of the visa. An authorized personnel will then check the passport to verify that you returned to India within the time frame of the visa’s validity.

Please note that if you do not present yourself at the Embassy or a Consulate within 15 days from the date of your visa’s expiry, it will indicate that you have exceeded the visa’s validity period. As a consequence this information will be given to the relevant authorities for their investigation.
